1995 - WSPA field officers rescue 14 dancing bears in the middle of the night from a gypsy camp near Istanbul, Turkey. The bears were among the first residents of WSPA's beautiful new forest sanctuary complete with dens and small ponds for swimming. |
1997 - WSPA and Member Socity ALIVE report on their joint investigation of nine Japanese bear parks. We exposed the inherent and the hidden cruelty of these tourist attractions, and today we are continuing our campaign to close down the parks.

1999 - The Idaho Black Bear Rehabilitation center is saved from shutting it's doors forever thanks to funding from WSPA. To date, 74 orphaned bear cubs have been returned to the wild.
