The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) is a global animal welfare organization whose vision is to create a world where animal welfare matters and animal cruelty has ended. We work responsibly and sustainably, collaborating with NGO’s, governments, businesses and local communities to put animal welfare on the global agenda and show that what’s good for animals is good for people and the planet. We are seeking a talented and passionate individual to join our team and play a key leadership role in the delivery of our animal protection program work.
The Business Engagement Director will lead WSPA’s work to engage businesses on animal welfare issues in North America and influence companies to change policies and practice to the benefit of animals. WSPA’s aim is to position animal welfare as a priority within the commercial sector and as part of sustainability and corporate responsibility goals. This role is directly responsible for initiating, developing and maintaining positive relationships with businesses and seeks to position WSPA as a credible and trusted partner on animal welfare standards and policies for large corporations, particularly food retailers, food service companies and manufacturers.
This role is managed by the North American Programs Director and will work cooperatively with staff in New York, Washington DC, Toronto and our International office in London. The candidate will work at a senior level, managing several staff and working across both Canada and the USA.
The right candidate will have worked in the food business sector, preferable with large and influential brands. S/he will have a demonstrated track record of initiating, building and maintaining strong commercial relationships and networks and ideally will have experience with managing a CSR program.
We are looking for a strategic thinker who is creative and has excellent interpersonal and diplomacy skills. The ideal candidate will have business acumen, good analytical skills and the ability to build effective and inspiring business cases. Excellent public speaking and presentation skills are a must.
