Allan Kornberg MD has been appointed Executive Director of the United States office of The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA). Dr. Kornberg is a pediatrician by training and comes to WSPA following his successful tenure as chief executive officer at Network Health, a rapidly growing managed health care plan.
In recent years, Dr. Kornberg has become involved in the animal welfare movement, volunteering his expertise on issues ranging from the use of vivisection at medical schools, to examining the connection between domestic violence and animal abuse.
“Animal welfare is a lifelong passion of mine, and the time is right for me to contribute to the cause on a professional level,” says Dr. Kornberg. “WSPA is poised for rapid growth in the US in the next few years, and I am excited to be a part of that.”
Professionally, Dr. Kornberg has over 20 years of experience as a practicing pediatrician and as a senior-level health care executive. Before joining Network Health, Allan was a medical director at Harvard Pilgrim HealthCare, executive director and medical director of the Scottish Rite Children's Medical Center (now Children's Healthcare of Atlanta) Physician Hospital Organization, medical director and chief for healthcare operations for Choice Care of Western New York, chief of emergency medicine at the Children's Hospital of Buffalo, and an associate clinical professor of emergency medicine and pediatrics at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine, and associate clinical professor of pediatrics at Brown University.
In addition, Dr. Kornberg practiced pediatrics in Orchard Park, N.Y. He also holds a Master's degree in business administration.
