Life at Balkasar: Shama, Milla and Lala

In October 2011, our partner group Bioresource Research Centre (BRC) rescued 3 more bears from the baiting “entertainment” industry in Pakistan.

After months of negotiations, the bears were handed over by their owners in exchange for alternative livelihoods. 

After time in quarantine recovering from their injuries, two of the bears – Shama & Milla – were released to join the other residents at Balkasar sanctuary.

The third bear, Lala, will be released in a few months when she has fully recovered from an injury to her muzzle.
