WSPA fundraisers in action
When it comes to fundraising, the students at Gateway School, in Santa Cruz, CA, have found the recipe for success by combining two key ingredients: baked goods and animals. For two years running, the school's library club has held a bakesale fundraiser for WSPA, selling a variety of cookies, cupcakes, and other treats to raise money for WSPA's international work for animals.
“Every year Gateway School has a Promise and Renewal ceremony where each classroom pledges to help the environment within our school community, local community or extended national and international community,” says library club director Merle Froshman. “This is the second year the library club chose WSPA as their pledge to the environment.”
At this year's event, students raised an impressive $350 for WSPA.
“The students have selected WSPA because they want an organization that helps both wild and domesticated animals in the US and all over the world,” says Froshman. “They are impressed with WSPA improving conditions for animals, providing care and treatment, rescuing animals, using rehabilitation facilities and if possible, bringing animals back to a safer natural habitat.”
Displaying WSPA literature and pictures as well student artwork, the students focus not only on raising money for a good cause, but also on educating their classmates about international animal welfare.
“We all enjoyed making posters and promoting WSPA,” says Froshman, “The students agree with WSPA that children and adults should take responsibility for our environment, which includes the animals that share our world.”
Thank you to the students of the Gateway School library club for your generous support of WSPA and for your enthusiasm for our work and animal welfare internationally!
