Refocus on whales, not whaling

May 2008

Thousands of whales continue to be savagely hunted and killed every year. At WSPA, we are determined to put a stop to this cruelty - a vision we think you share.

The next meeting of the International Whaling Commission (IWC) starts later this week. With Japan, Iceland and Norway preparing to hunt nearly 2,500 whales this year, it's time the Commission reassessed its priorities.

WSPA is determined to remind the world that the argument should not be about quotas to kill whales, but instead should focus on protecting whales from suffering. In partnership with other animal protection organizations, we have produced a report detailing a constructive vision for the evolution and future of the IWC.

Testimonials

"The funding that WSPA provides keeps IBBR (Idaho Black Bear Rehibilitation) going, but it’s far more than that. Working in animal protection and rehabilitation is hard, but I always know WSPA will be there for encouragement and support in so many other ways. I never feel like I am in this alone."
