With your support in 2008 WSPA was truly able to have an impact for animals around the globe.  The dedication, compassion and generosity of supporters enabled us to reach out to animals in desperate need, expose some of the worst forms of cruelty and make far-reaching changes in the way animals are treated and thought about by the people around them.

Make a difference for stray dogs
Right now there are an estimated 400 million stray dogs around the world - dogs like the one on the left, who are sick, suffering, abandoned and alone. These dogs desperately need relief and we are working to bring it to them, but we cannot do it alone.
European Commission acknowledges need to handle with care
The European Commission has publicly responded to the WSPA-led Handle with Care coalition’s demands for better enforcement of existing EU legislation on animal transportation and - in the longer term - a complete end to long distance transport.
Preventing cruelty in Kenya
A Kenyan form of bullfighting, in which two bulls are encouraged to fight each other, was prevented from taking place in the capital Nairobi this month by the joint efforts of a network of animal welfare groups.
Cruel pig competition loses support
Thanks to lobbying by WSPA supporters and member society EAST, several Taiwanese government departments have withdrawn their funding from a cruel weight-based competition which involves the severe confinement, force-feeding and public, inhumane slaughter of several hundred pigs every year.
Take action for dolphins
Urge the Singapore government not to support the cruel practice of capturing wild dolphins to keep them in captivity. Write to Singapore’s Ambassador to the United States now.

WSPA is the only animal welfare organization to have consultative status with the United Nations and Council of Europe
